Star Picks

   Lenntech Periodic Table

Lenntech Periodic Table
(http://www.lenntech.com/periodic-chart.htm)

Not another periodic table site! This is what I thought when a Reactive Reports reader nominated it for a Star Pick, but I was pleasantly surprised when I took a more detailed look. The basic layout belies its interactivity and the fact that the site carries health and environmental effects for many of the more widely known elements, aluminum and platinum, for instance. But, most interesting of all from an internationalist's point of view, is that this periodic table is presented in five languages, English, German, French, Spanish, and Dutch.

There is plenty of interactivity on this site created by Nigel Saunders, a teacher at a High School in North Yorkshire, England. There are PowerPoint presentations for teachers on energy conversion in reactions, titration, and other common curriculum areas, while crossword puzzles and word searches should keep students entertained while they learn.

This is a fantastic educational tool for high school chemistry students. There are practical sections, fun stuff, Q&A, and a "beat the examiners" section carrying tips on how to do well in chemistry tests.
