Metabolic Pathways of Biochemistry

screenshot

This site is an excellent wayfinder for molecular biologists interested in the chemical comings and goings of our cells.

They provide schemes for metabolic processes including glycolysis, the Kreb's citric acid cycle, the pentose phosphate pathway, beta-oxidation of fatty acids and many others. 2D maps and 3D representations, that exploit the Chime plugin from MDL, allow visitors to view the molecules from all angles and to allow them to be rotated with a drag of the mouse.

There isn't too much textual detail, but then the views are great so who needs the commentary?

Mark's Chemistry Tutor

A humourous and mildly educational site covering the likes of moles, stoichiometry, oxidation numbers. The information might provide a few pointers for chemical educators. Although there are more comprehensive and detailed 'lesson' sites around, the slight atmosphere of irreverence pervading the site might be more attractive to some less inclined students.

Martindale's The Reference Desk

This huge information site has been around quite some time. Jim Martindale has created a particularly comprehensive collection of categorised links to almost every field of science and medicine. The chemistry listing is massive but there are no flashy graphics to slow the download.
