Is it better for a physician to recommend supplements or just plain old home remedies like gargling salt and getting enough sleep?

Fellow science writer Natasha Loder alerted me to the concept of flu parties a couple of weeks ago...you attend with people known to be infected and spread the viral love to help prime your immune system for the more virulent strains that may one day arrive. Today, she highlighted an article in the NYT on that very concept:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/07/world/americas/07party.html?hp

Kat Arney then cracked the inevitable: "I went to NYC and all I got was crappy swineflu".

Incidentally, it's pointless to call UK's NHSDirect health service about swine flu, all you'll get is crackling on the line...what a boar.
