This site carries a vast collection of genomics links. Split into 18 sections there are links on bioinformatics and genomics news, labs, online databases, learned societies and much more. The layout is fairly "old style web", but is very functional and virtually graphics free, which is refreshing in its own way. It is not the most comprehensive of links listings in this area but cuts a decent and usable cross section through everything from sequences and computing to careers and job hunting. |

For something slightly off the beaten track, try web designer and technical author Ray Girvan's site. Like a virtual alchemist's bazaar stuffed with alligators, brass astrolabes and jars of bloodthirsty leeches, this bizarre selection of polymathematic links provides an entry point to some of the more weird, but not seedy, sites on the Web. The fractal artwork hidden within the frothy head of Girvan's pint of beer might provide a nice taster for starters. |

If you don't yet know your alkanes from your alkenes, or are puzzling over the differences between eliminations and substitutions, then this site might be able to help out. It acts as a virtual chemistry tutor, and is based at Frostburg University. The site provides lessons covering the basics of organic chemistry: chemistry, nomenclature, reaction mechanisms and chemical properties. Once you have got yourself clued up, then you can try out the tests to see whether you're memory is working properly. Also at the site is "Ask Artickus" but serious questions only please, no last-minute homework queries. |
