Finding what you want on the web in the world of organic chemistry has never been exactly intuitive. Type the word "organic" into a general search engine and most of the results will be about the likes of pesticide-free farming and alternatives to feeding your cattle antibiotics. In steps, this directory site positions itself as "An intuitive WWW resource guide for synthetic organic chemists". And, to be honest, that's what it seems to be. Old-fashioned (i.e. more than a year out of date) in web layout and style it does not try to glamorise one's search for organic chemical information and instead presents a selective directory to truly pertinent resources.

Five of the most well-known sites dedicated to setting the record straight: Snopes Urban Legends Archive, About.com Urban Legends search, CIAC Hoax Database, CERT Computer Security Database, and Symantec (Real) Virus Encyclopedia are searchable direct from here. Definitely worth a look if only to cut down on wasted emails.

TAs we have recently published a couple of curry-related news items ("The spice is right" and "Herbal remedy", Reactive Reports, #19) we thought it would be nice to review a spicy site. Katzer is a chemist at the University of Graz in Austria and has put together a comprehensive set of pages to spice up even the most bland web menu. At the time of writing, he had covered 113 spice plants used in various but mainly Asian cuisine and he provides the most detailed information possible in a nevertheless succinct format with nice pictures to boot. A tasty site.
